Am I My Sisters Keeper?

When did we stop being our sisters keepers?  Just over 50 years ago, we were standing together, holding signs, holding hands, and burning bras as a declaration of our independence and freedom.  We provided a picture to America that we were a powerful force to be reckoned with when joined together and literally having our sisters back.

Have we forgotten our past?  Have we forgotten that we didn’t get to the place where we are today, (even though we have a lot further to go) if it were not for the act of love, courage, and support of one another?  Have we forgotten the true definition of Sisterhood?  We have become so quick to point fingers, condemn, ridicule, gossip, and demean the name of our sisters, when we should actually be pointing those fingers and directing those insults at ourselves for not using our tongues, gifts and talents to bless them.  This culture of negativity has unfortunately slithered itself down the generational tracks to our young ladies.  We have all witnessed our young ladies engaging in unproductive, useless, and careless behaviors in our communities – watched them, sat back, shook our heads and wondered what has happened to them.  We are what has happened to them!

We did nothing to help them?
We did nothing to uplift them?
We did nothing to encourage them?

The only thing that we did was create another curve in the endless cycle of the deleting the empowerment out of our Sisterhood.  So what if they are not our biological children, they are our future…the future us!  It is our responsibility to be their keepers - guide them, support them, inspire them, hold their hands and lead them.  If our leaders had failed to stand together to make the future better for us years ago, where would we be now?

This is the time for us to put our differences aside and create a community of powerful, unstoppable, strong willed, and directed young women and prepare them to make a recognizable and permanent positive mark in our society.  We all have a story to tell and something to offer!  It’s time for us to throw our pride out the window, tell our stories, and pledge to push the envelope open that many of our young ladies have regrettably place themselves in and put the standards in place for them to become LiberatedSista's.

Peace and Blessings~
