There Should Be Nothing Quiet About Abuse
There were several significant causes recognized during the month of
April, but the two that
I’m choosing to focus on are Child Abuse Awareness & Sexual Assault
Awareness.
So I ask, how aware are you?
How
aware are you of the company that you are keeping?
Are you listening to the things that your
children are saying?
Have you taught them the concepts of healthy relationships?
When is the last time that you asked your
child if someone touched them inappropriately?
If you answered no or I don’t
know to any of these questions, I would say that it’s time to wake up and get
these questions answered! Not just
today, but often, very often. This is
why:
·
-44% of sexual assault victims are under the age
of 18 (Rape,
Abuse & Incest National Network)
·
-Every 2 minutes, someone in the United States is
sexually assaulted (Rape, Abuse & Incest National
Network)
It’s time that we stop being
silent about an issue that is affecting our children on a daily basis. If we can text, facebook, and send twitter
comments about reality television shows and other non important items, then we
can start generating comments and talk about the severity of child abuse/sexual
abuse. We must empower ourselves, so
that we can then empower others to take a stand and speak up!
In my opinion, being silent, is
the same as keeping the abuse alive!
To learn more about the signs,
effects, and assistance that can help check out the Rape,
Abuse & Incest National Network website to review several resources
that can lead you in the right direction.
If you think your child or believe that a child has been a victim of any
form of abuse, call your local police department and REPORT IT.
Stop keeping family secrets, they’re selfish
and do nothing more than hurt the child even more in the process.
Let’s start talking today, so
that our children can have a positive tomorrow!
Peace & Blessings,
Edquina
Great post! Keep up the positive energy!
